Land Preservation Workshop Is June 27

Published: Friday, June 23, 2017

Local agricultural partners are sponsoring an event June 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Van Buren Conference Center in Lawrence for landowners, resident farmers, municipal officials and other interested parties to learn about federal, state and local options for land preservation.

Agriculture is a major industry, and remains the most prominent land use in Van Buren County. The county ranked No. 1 in the state for fruit, nut trees and berries and No. 3 for vegetables, melons, potatoes and sweet potatoes in past Census of Agriculture from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Farmland and open are priceless. Landowners have options for preserving, conserving and investing in Van Buren County Agriculture.

Is keeping county agriculture lands protected and Van Buren County rural important to you? A panel of experts will tell what programs are available, how they work and how to enroll.

RSVP to the Van Buren Farm Bureau office at 269/657-3293 or the Van Buren Conservation District at 269/657-4030, ext. 5.

The event is organized by Van Buren County Farm Bureau, Van Buren County Land Preservation Board, Michigan State University Extension, Michigan Land Trust and the Van Buren Conservation District.
