Local Youths Earn Champion Livestock Honors at State Fair

The Indiana State Fair recognized the top competitors at the 4-H Grand Drive Sunday evening in the coliseum. The overall grand champions were selected from the swine, sheep, meat goat, heifers and market steer departments.

A number of youths from northern Indiana earned grand or reserve champion banners. Melissa Rudolph of LaPorte County exhibited the grand champion dairy steer and Cass County's Ethan Beaman earned grand champion with his meat goat wether. Cody Maxwell of Porter County exhibited the grand champion market barrow and Remington Brumbaugh of DeKalb County showed the grand champion beef steer. Lane Slaton of Hamilton County showed the grand champion market lamb and Paige Gauck of Decatur County exhibited the grand champion rabbit meat pen.

Reserve champion honors went to the following individuals: Elizabeth Michel, Wabash County, reserve grand meat goat wether; Kendal Rosen, Wabash County, reserve champion market lamb; Cagney Utterback, Madison County, reserve champion market barrow; and Harper Henney, Steuben County, reserve champion beef steer.
