The Lake County Fair 4-H livestock auction took place last Saturday in Crown Point, where a total of 152 lots sold generating $128,322.57. Last year's sale total reached $148,174.88.
Leading the way in the beef sale was Riley Hayden with his 1,360-pound grand champion steer that sold for $4,760 ($3.50 per pound) to Grosser Corporation Sales Inc. The reserve steer was sold by Conner Hayden for $1,270 ($2.75 per pound) to Bill's Produce.
In all, 15 steers sold for $52,001.25.
In the swine sale, the 282-pound grand champion market barrow was sold by Jacob McKay for $1,410 ($5 per pound) to Kraft Auction Service. The reserve market barrow, weighing 230 pounds, was sold by Conner Hayden for $1,035 ($4.50 per pound) to Castongia Tractor. In the market gilt sale, Josephine Gianni sold her grand champion for $2,337.50 ($8.50 per pound) to the friends and family of Josephine Gianni group. Her gilt weighed 275 pounds. The reserve gilt, weighing 240 pounds, was sold by Jacob McKay for $840 ($3.50 per pound) to Ceres Solution.
Josephine Gianni also sold the grand champion swine carcass for $850 ($3.50 per pound) to Robert Brown. The reserve swine carcass was sold by Margaret Sever for $590 ($2.50 per pound) to Hanford Packing.
Sixty-three lots of swine sold for $52,174.82.
Emma Millard exhibited and sold the grand champion market lamb for $992 ($8 per pound) to Kraft Auction Service. Her lamb weighed 124 pounds. The reserve market lamb, weighing 130 pounds, was sold by Katelynn Neal for $2,112.50 ($16.25 per pound) to the Supporters of Katie Neal group.
Cole Clinton sold his grand champion market lamb carcass for $468 ($4 per pound) to Professional Pilots Inc. The reserve grand market lamb carcass was sold by Makayla Neal for $345 ($3 per pound) to John David Boyd.
A total of 20 lambs sold for $12,246.50.
In the goat auction, Emma Carrillo sold the grand champion market wether for $250 to Kraft Auction Service. The reserve market wether was sold by Aaron Stegenga for $200 to Kraft Auction Service. Jordin Hadley sold the grand champion dairy goat wether for $250 to Kraft Auction Service. The reserve dairy goat wether was sold by Jamie Reed for $175 to Benedict Farms.
The grand champion goat milk was sold by Dominic Rund for $175 to Lake County Farm Bureau, Inc. Jamie Reed sold the reserve goat milk for $175 to Benedict Farms.
Twenty-five entries of goats sold for $5,425.
The grand champion Holstein milk was sold by Jacob McKay for $275 to Frank and Jeannie Kalviatis family. The reserve dairy milk was sold by Austin Kalviatis for $300 to Castongia Tractor. Steve Severin sold the grand champion all-other-breed dairy milk for $300 to Lake County Farm Burea Inc.
On three lots of dairy milk, $875 was earned.
In the rabbit auction, Emmitt Ray sold his grand champion pen of three rabbits to Fraikin Farms for $150. The reserve pen of three rabbits were sold by Colin Klisiak for $250 to Benedict Farms. Emmitt Ray also exhibited both the grand and reserve champion single fryer rabbits. The grand sold for $125 to Didi's Rabbitry and the reserve sold for $125 to Crown Feed and Supply Inc.
There were five entries of rabbits that sold for $750.
Elizabeth Sever sold the grand champion poultry chickens for $200 to Gleaner Life Insurance Inc. The reserve poultry chickens were sold by Margaret Sever for $250 to Crown Feed and Supply Inc.
On 21 entries of poultry, $4,850 was earned.
