Pulaski 4-H Fair Auction Raises $104,658

Last Thursday, Pulaski County 4-H Fair auctioned off more than 130 lots during the annual livestock auction raising a total of $104,658. Rising past last year's sale that earned $85,422, a difference of $19,236.

The grand champion beef steer was exhibited by Tori Culp of Francesville. Her steer weighed in at 1,277 pounds and sold for $2 per pound, or $3,080. Keegan Reinhold of Rochester exhibited the reserve champion beef steer, which did not sell. A total of six lots of beef sold for $19,578, surpassing 2017's total of $9,508.

Peyton Newman of Winamac finished off her 10th year at Pulaski County fair with the grand champion dairy steer. Newman's Holstein weighing 380 pounds sold for $6.25 per pound, or $2,375 to Two Guys Mechanical. A total of five lots of dairy steers sold for $8,109, down nearly $6,675 from 2017.

The swine sale reached over 80 lots. Andrew Ruff sold his grand champion 252-pound crossbred barrow for $17.50 per pound, or $4,410 to Andrew Ruff Buyer's Group. The reserve champion barrow, shown by Tori Culp, wasn't sold in last Friday's auction. The auction benefited $63,458 from the lot of swine.

The grand champion sheep was exhibited and sold by Emma Nielsen of Medaryville. She sold her 167-pound lamb for $4.25 per pound, or $709.75. The reserve champion was exhibited by Jocelyn Kain, whose lamb sold for $18 per pound, or $2,386 to Friends of Jocelyn Kain. Seven lots of sheep sold for $7,483.

Breanna DeMarco exhibited and sold her grand champion goat for $5.50 per pound, or $314. Breanna also exhibited the reserve champion market goat, which did not sell. A total of six lots of goats sold for $4,524.

In the poultry auction, Keegen Reinhold of Rochester started the auction with her grand champion meat class chicken. Selling her chicken for $500 which was purchased by town sheriff, Jeff Richwine. The grand champion turkey was exhibited and sold by Michael Bathke of Medaryville. His turkey brought a total of $450 and was purchased by Wyatt Nielsen family. The reserve champion turkey was sold by Lilly Button of Star City for $200.

The grand champion duck was shown by 10-year member Kennan Day of Winamac and brought $450 during the auction. The reserve champion duck was sold by Aiden Day of Winamac for $500. A total of 23 lots of poultry sold for $5,375.

Pulaski County Extension Homemakers auctioned off a quilt to raise money for their scholarship fund and brought $500. The royalty kiss was given by Miss Pulaski County and 10-year member, Rachel Ploss of Star City, raising $2,900 towards the auction.
