Champions Crowned at State Fair

Several exhibitors finished as grand and reserve grand champions at the coliseum Sunday during the 2018 Indiana State Fair Grand Drive. At the event, 4-H members showed livestock of various species, weights and classes in the coliseum during the Indiana State Fair. Categories included dairy steer, meat goat wether, sheep, rabbit meat pen, market barrow, beef heifer and beef steer.
The grand champions are as follows:
• Grand champion dairy steer: Kale Beer, Adams County, Class 1
• Grand champion meat goat wether: Spencer Goattemiller, Randolph County, heavyweight
• Grand champion market sheep: Lane Slaton, Hamilton County, Blackface cross
• Grand champion rabbit meat pen: Brooke Kneubuhler, Allen County
• Grand champion market barrow: Hadley Hendrickson, Randolph County, crossbred
• Grand champion beef heifer: Mercedes Ferree, Sullivan County, Angus
• Grand champion beef steer: Hadley Hendrickson, Randolph County, crossbred
Second place was awarded to the following:
• Reserve meat goat wether: Maxwell Scamihorn, Vigo County, middleweight
• Reserve sheep: Gabrielle Raute, Hamilton County, reserve Blackface cross
• Reserve market barrow: Lakyn Mauck, Delaware County, Berkshire
• Reserve beef heifer: Addison Walther, Wayne County
• Reserve beef steer: Harlee Henney, Steuben County, reserve crossbred
Around $100,000 is raised by the Indiana State Fair Foundation, the Indiana State Fair's non-profit arm, to provide monetary awards for winners. Top placing 4-H members will be recognized for their hard work at the Celebration of Champions event, held on Aug. 19 at the coliseum at 6 p.m. The Celebration of Champions is an event that awards and celebrates achievement, scholarship and hard work.
