Mariane Elizabeth Grace, daughter of Troy and Tricia Grace of Bristol, was crowned the queen of last weekend's Nappanee Apple Festival.
The 19-year-old Goshen College sophomore is a 2017 graduate of Elkhart Central High School. As a college student, she is studying nursing and Spanish.
As festival queen, she rode in last Saturday's parade through downtown Nappanee. She sat atop an apple-themed float carrying all of the smiling contestants.
In the parade, the top entry in the Automotive Division was a 1956 Chrysler New Yorker owned by Lamar Hochstetler.
The first place float in the Commercial Division was a 1949 Ford F1 from Reliable Excavation.
In Tractors, the first place entry came from Brad Jackson, who brought a 1953 Farmall Super H. Kenny Hershberger, representing the Northern Indiana Johnny Poppers, had the second place tractor.
Also appearing in last Saturday's parade were Carol Grimm and her family from Nappanee.
Carol and her family served as grand marshalls as a posthumous honor, in memory of Carol's late husband, Charles J. "Chuck" Grimm.
Grimm was a fifth-generation Nappanee native whose grandfather, Herman Fogel, served as chief of the Nappanee Police Department.
Chuck was instrumental in bringing the Nappanee Center to life, along with the Nappanee Public Library. He donated many artifacts from his collection to the library and served as curator. He also played a lead role in organizing the Nappanee and Wakarusa Chamber outings. He died in March 2016.
Chuck and Carol celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2015. They have three children and three grandchildren.
