Fairfield, NorthWood FFA Members Help the Needy

Published: Friday, December 13, 2019

Members of the Fairfield and NorthWood FFA chapters participated in a meal packing event during the Foundations In Reaching Excellence (F.I.R.E.) Conference, held during one of two weekends in November. FFA members from across Indiana came together at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar and filled baskets with Thanksgiving food items to take back to deserving members of their local communities. Between the two weekend conferences, 300 baskets were filled by FFA members for those in need.

Each FFA chapter was asked to bring food items to fill the baskets. These items included: canned corn, canned green beans, macaroni and cheese, boxed potatoes or stuffing. The Indiana FFA, with the generous support of Ceres Solutions, provided the baskets, decorations and gift cards for those in need across Indiana. The gift cards will fund the meal's protein, such as a turkey or ham for families.

Representatives from Ceres Solutions attended the meal-packing events in a show of support for the students. Laurel Mann, a Ceres staff member, observed, "It is so rewarding to see these student leaders come together to serve our local communities. On behalf of the employees and farmer-owners of our company, we are extremely proud to support FFA."

Fairfield FFA chapter members Grace Caffee, Ali Weaver and Riley Richardson participated in the meal packing. Fairfield FFA chapter members Garrett Dunlap and Riley Richardson delivered the meals to two local families in our community to provide a Thanksgiving meal once they returned home from the F.I.R.E. Conference.

NorthWood FFA chapter members Zhoey Rasnake, Lexi Sterling, Megan Kelly, Julie Ely, Trinity Blanton, Austin Miller and Brice Martin, participated in the meal packing and said, "Not only did we pack meals for the less fortunate, we learned from it and had a blast doing it." Northwood FFA chapter members delivered the meals to FCDC in Nappanee, once they returned home from the F.I.R.E. Conference.

The Foundations In Reaching Excellence (F.I.R.E) Conference is a three-day conference held on two separate weekends in November at the Indiana FFA Leadership Center. F.I.R.E. is open to any Indiana high school junior and senior FFA member.

This year's F.I.R.E. Conference focused on helping older FFA members learn to take their leadership abilities to the next level for their local chapters, become mentors for younger members, and create a vision for themselves after their high school career is finished.
