St. Joseph Co. Homemakers Scholarships Awarded

Five former St. Joseph County (Ind.) 4-H and FFA members have received $500 St. Joseph County Homemakers Extension scholarships intended for college tuition and books.

The 2020 recipients are: Amelia Mears is the daughter of Tricia Markin and Kenneth Mears and the great-granddaughter of Val June Schafer. Mears is a 2020 graduate of LaVille Junior-Senior High School and was a 10-year 4-H member of Union Twp. Mears showed swine, sheep, and had numerous awards in sewing and recycling. Mears is the oldest of five siblings and has worked to contribute to her college fund all through high school. She is currently employed at Magrane Pet Medical Center and studying veterinary nursing at Ancilla College.

Hunter Lederer, the son of Anne Lederer, is a graduate of Penn High School. Lederer is attending IUPUI in Indianapolis and pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. Lederer participated in indoor soccer, National Honor Society and 4-H. He also has contributed to his college financial fund by working as a security guard in the past and he is employed by Holiday Inn Express

Camryn Temple is the daughter of Scott and Jodie Temple. She graduated from John Glenn High School in 2020 and ranked 20th out of 144 in her graduating class. Temple was an active member of the theater, art and NHS clubs during high school and a 10-year Warren Twp. 4-H member. She participated in many projects such as greenware, scrapbooking, jewelry making and foods. While in high school, Temple worked a minimum of 20 hours a week at Eby Meat Market and is pursuing a degree in elementary and art education at Indiana University South Bend.

Jessica Grabowski is a graduate of Bremen High School and the daughter of Debra Grabowski. She is seeking a degree in nursing at Indiana University South Bend. Grabowski graduated 19th out of 97 in her class, while actively participating in travel softball, NHS, FFA and varsity soccer. Grabowski was also a 10-year 4-H member of the Madison Twp. Club, participating in numerous activities such as swine, dairy beef and cake decorating. She also worked part-time and was very active in volunteering at Memorial Hospital.

Meghan Shreve is the daughter of Lori Shreve. A graduate of LaVille Junior Senior High, Shreve has worked at Newton Park for two years to help offset the cost of attending college. While in high school, Meghan was a varsity cheerleader and active in the FFA. She volunteered to pack care packages for the less the fortunate and collected items for children's charities locally. Shreve is pursuing a nursing degree at the University of Southern Indiana.
