The Indiana 4-H Foundation will honor the 2020 and 2021 Indiana 4-H Foundation scholarship recipients at the Indiana 4-H Foundation Scholarship Luncheon in Carmel, Ind.
Thirty-four students will be recognized as 2020 Indiana 4-H Foundation scholarship recipients, and 40 students will be named as recipients of a 2021 Indiana 4-H Foundation scholarship. The luncheon will take place on Oct. 23 from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In partnership with the Indiana 4-H Foundation, the Indiana 4-H Youth Development Program annually awards more than $125,000 in scholarships to Indiana 4-H members to pursue post-secondary education. Scholarships recognize Indiana 4-H youth members for their achievements and life skill development resulting from their participation in a variety of 4-H experiences.
The Indiana 4-H Foundation also will host a reception for Robert "Bob" Ritchie and Darrel Thomas the morning prior to the scholarship luncheon. Ritchie and Thomas will be inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame on Oct. 12 at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. The National 4-H Hall of Fame recognizes 4-H volunteers, Extension professionals, staff employees, donors and others who have made a significant impact on the 4-H program.
Ritchie was raised in Tippecanoe County where he participated in 4-H as a youth. After earning a degree in animal science from Purdue University, Ritchie served as the Grant County 4-H Extension educator and director before joining the Indiana State 4-H staff. Ritchie retired in 1998. He stays active in Indiana 4-H as a judge at county fairs and the Indiana State Fair.
Thomas was a 10-year 4-H member from Vigo County. He graduated from Indiana State University and joined the Fountain County Extension staff before serving in Vietnam War. When he returned home, Thomas was named 4-H youth educator, and later Extension director in Putnam County where he served 31 years.
