Mich. Crop Harvest Inches Along

The following is from the Michigan Field Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service for the week ending Nov. 21.

The state experienced rain and snow events accompanied by cold temperatures.

There were 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork.

Corn harvest was slowed due to wet conditions, although progress remained ahead of the five-year average. Reported grain moisture was 18 percent, unchanged from the previous week.

Soybean harvest continued behind the five-year average. Reported soybean moisture was 16 percent, unchanged from the previous week.

Winter wheat planting made very little progress due to the unfavorable weather.

Other activities included fall tillage, hauling manure, and catching up on paperwork.

The crop progress schedule (last week, previous week, 2020 and 5-year average) showed: corn harvested for grain, 85, 76, 90, 76; soybeans harvested, 87, 80, 99, 89; winter wheat planted, 94, 90, 100, 97; winter wheat, emerged, 86, 81, 99, 90.
