Magiera Earns Top Awards at Wawasee FFA Banquet

Hunter Magiera picked up the Senior Leadership Award as well as two other major awards at the Wawasee FFA banquet last Thursday in Syracuse.

In addition to receiving the leadership award, he received the Ray Darr Memorial Scholarship and the Chapter Star Agribusinessman Award.

The chapter also recognized this year's president, Elizabeth Zorn, with the Chad Beer Memorial Scholarship and the Chapter Star Production Agriculture Award.

Other top award winners were: Christy Carson, Agriculture Education Scholarship and Advisor's Award; Ashley Beer, DeKalb Award; Clara Hardy, Blue and Gold Award; Austin Murphy, Advisor's Award; Reagon Dailey, Junior Leadership Award; Emily Sabin, Sophomore Leadership Award; and Evan Coblentz, Chapter Star Greenhand and Freshman Leadership Award.

Officers for the 2016-17 school year were: Elizabeth Zorn, president; Bryce Wuthrich, vice president; Ashley Beer, secretary; Christy Carson, treasurer; Clara Hardy and Madelyn Zimmerman, reporters; and Hunter Magiera, sentinel.

The chapter also presented special awards to recognize the contributions of sponsors and adult volunteers. Certificates of appreciation were given to Peg Zimmerman and Chris Fleming. Honorary chapter degrees were awarded to Tippy View Lawn Care and Diana Whitehead.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Pam Unruh, Fran and the late Doug Bowser, Janelle Deatsman and Maple Leaf Farms.

The banquet concluded with the installation of 2017-18 chapter officers. Clara Hardy and Madelyn Zimmerman will serve as president and vice president, respectively. Other officers include Logan Hollar, secretary; Isabelle Cross, treasurer; Kayla Estrada, reporter; Connor Grumme, sentinel; and Emily Sabin, student advisor.

The chapter advisor is Mariah Roberts.
