4-H'ers Sell 266 Lots, Earn $244,000 in Noble County

The Noble County 4-H Fair wrapped up the 2017 fair with their auction last Friday. The auction sold 266 lots at $244,000; compared to $236,046 on 269 lots in 2016.

Starting off the auction was the reserve grand champion dairy steer. The steer was exhibited by Austin Stump of York Twp. The steer sold for $2,125.00 to Frick Services, Friends and Family of Austin Stump, Shipshewana Auction and York Twp. 4-H. The grand champion dairy steer was exhibited by Josh Marker. The steer did not sell and will be exhibited at the Indiana State Fair in August.

Thirty-four dairy beef sold for a total of $67,305.

In beef, Jack Huelsenbeck of Swan Twp. sold his grand champion beef steer for $5,780 to B and J Specialty/B and J Medical/B and J International, Community State Bank, Tony and Kari Geary, Haines Bulldozing, John and Sally Huelsenbeck. The reserve grand champion beef steer was exhibited by Weston Ott and will be exhibited at the Indiana State Fair.

Nine lots of beef sold for $27,840.

In the dairy portion, the Noble County 4-H Dairy club sold various dairy products to a group of buyers for $1,100. The club sold milk, cottage cheese and other dairy products to B and J Specialty/ B and J Medical/ B and J International, Dairy Club Group, Farmer's Mutual, Frick Services, Garrett State Bank, Duane Stohlman, Wolf Lake Feed and Farm Supply, Farmers Grain of Kimmell, and Yoder Farm Service.

Four lots sold in dairy for a total of $2,490.

Miss Noble County, Tori Foster of Swan Twp., sold her queen's kiss for $600 to B and J Specialty/ B and J Medical/ B and J International. The lucky recipient of that kiss was 10-year-old Ethan Wolheter.

In swine, both the grand champion barrow and reserve grand champion barrow did not sell and will be exhibited at the Indiana State Fair in August.

The grand champion barrow was exhibited by Jordan Riecke of Swan Twp. The reserve grand champion barrow was exhibited by Austin Moore and did not sell.

Seventy lots of pigs sold for a total of $65,653.

The Boer goat portion of the auction started off with Delaney Gaff of Green Twp. selling her reserve grand champion Boer goat wether for $1,050 to B and J Specialty/ B and J Medical/ B and J International and Green Twp. Aggies 4-H Club. The grand champion Boer goat was exhibited by Aubrey Brumbaugh.

Twenty-one lots of Boer goats sold for $16,370.

Moving into the dairy goats, Analyn Stanley of Wayne Twp. sold her grand champion dairy goat doe in milk. Stanley sold her goat's milk for $500 to B and J Specialty/ B and J Medical/ B and J International. Anna Wicker of Wayne Twp. sold her grand champion dairy goat first freshener for $1,100 to Community State Bank and GreenMark Equipment.

Bailey Rupley of Allen Twp. sold her grand champion dairy goat wether for $350 to Allen Twp. 4-H, Arden Schrader, Dave and Kim Rupley, Dan and Megan Rawles, Jim and Lynn Rupley, Kendallville Iron and Metal, Schrader Real Estate and Auction, Squire Pallets, UPI Parks Livestock Cassopolis, UPI/Parks Livestock Stryker.

Faith Resler of Green Twp. sold her grand champion dairy goat milk production for $500 to B and J Specialty/ B and J Medical/ B and J International.

Twenty-nine lots of Dairy Goats sold for a total of $16,055.

Amy Geary of Swan Twp. sold her reserve grand champion market lamb for $1,830 to Friends of Amy Geary, Garrett State Bank, and Noble County Disposal, Inc. The grand champion market lamb was exhibited by Adara Bell and will be exhibited at the Indiana State Fair.

Twenty-two market lambs were sold for $15,690.

In the rabbit portion of the auction, the grand champion pen of rabbits was exhibited by Tristan Sherman, but did not sell.

Twenty-three pens of rabbits were sold for $8,895.

Wrapping up the auction was poultry. Meagan Kabrich of Wayne Twp. sold her grand champion commercial and best of show commercial poultry for $700 to B and J Specialty/ B and J Medical/ B and J International, Barbara Johnson, Bontrager Feed Service, Chase Anderson family, John Cleveland, Scott and Kim Kabrich, Shepherd's, Star Tire, Topeka Do-It Best, and Wolf Co-op.

Forty-six lots of poultry sold for $18,797.
