Groen Named Top Junior in Ag Communication

Kayla Groen of DeMotte, Ind. is the 2018 recipient of the Outstanding Junior in Agricultural Communication award at Purdue University. The award, sponsored by The Farmer's Exchange, comes with a $500 scholarship.

Kayla is the daughter of Jeff and Dianna Groen. She will be a junior this fall, majoring in agricultural communication. At Purdue, she is a College of Agriculture Dean's Scholar and is involved in Crus, where she is a Bible study leader and mentor. She is also the artist

for a project called "Fifty States of Farming," which showcases the diversity of agriculture in America.

This year, she has interned with the Indiana Forage Council, interviewing farmers and writing feature stories. In high school, she was active in her FFA chapter, through forestry judging, public speaking and the North American Envirothon competition.

The DeMotte native hopes to pursue a career in writing and design.
