Published: Friday, August 10, 2018

Tim Hood of Paw Paw, Mich. is a dairy farmer and holds multiple leadership roles within the industry. On Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Hood family will welcome visitors to their third-generation dairy farm for Breakfast on the Farm. The farm is family owned and operated and has 500 cows and 950 acres of crops to feed their cows.

Family: My wife Debbie, our children Tammy and Ty Spicher and their three children Taylor, Tessa and Tegan. Charlie Hood, Britney Hood, and Jennifer and John Buskirk and their son Wyatt.

My job consists of: My job description keeps changing as I get older. These days it's preparing the next generation with the tools they need to succeed. It is amazing how much I am learning personally from them along the way.

My leadership roles include: District II director on the Michigan Milk Producers Board, United Dairy Industry of Michigan, Michigan Dairy Market Program Committee, Michigan Farm Bureau Dairy Advisory Committee, DMI and UDIA boards.

What or who impacted your desire to host an open house: The public and their curiosity and interaction with the cows. It is priceless to see someone reaching to pet a cow and having her tongue come out of her mouth a foot or more. (Watching) Goo drip off his or her hand, wiping it off on their pants and saying it feels like sandpaper.

What farming means to me: I am so blessed to have been able to work alongside my dad, to watch my grandpa carry a gallon jug on the tractor while raking hay so that when it ran out he could go another two rounds before he headed home. And to watch my kids grow up and become part of something special that they will be able to pass on.

Hobbies: Life, I am living it.

My mentor: My dad. He lives every day in my heart.

My mission in life: To take our farm that my great-grandpa, grandpa and dad farmed and grow it and pass it along to the next generation like they did and enjoying every minute along the way.
