Area Herds Rank High on ISDA Test

Three area farms ranked among the top 15 for milk production on the Indiana State Dairy Assn.'s testing program for 2018. The three area herds included Kuehnert Dairy Farms of Fort Wayne, Jack Hosford and family of Wawaka, and Kleine Dairy Farm of Cedar Lake.

Herds were ranked according to their milk production averages. Herd sizes were not provided.

The Kuehnert herd claimed fourth place on the list with a milk production average of 29,873 pounds. Protein and butterfat averages were 898 pounds and 1,097 pounds, respectively.

With a milk production average of 28,728 pounds, the Hosford herd placed seventh on the list. The herd's protein and butterfat averages were 901 pounds and 1,054 pounds, respectively.

The Kleine herd landed in 10th place, thanks to a 27,947-pound milk production average. Protein and butterfat averages were 927 pounds and 1,068 pounds, respectively.

The list of top 25 farms also includes seven herds from Wisconsin, four from Michigan and one from southern Indiana.

The high herd on the list was Branders Dairy Farm LLC of Spring Green, Wis. Its 30,063-pound milk production average led the way.
