Warsaw FFA Recognizes Members at Spring Banquet

The Warsaw FFA Chapter held its annual spring banquet and awards ceremony on May 3, in the Warsaw Performing Arts Center. The night's theme was "Homegrown Blue and Gold," which highlighted some of the greatest country music artists and the members' achievements throughout the year.

The chapter recognized three members who were presented with the prestigious award of the State FFA Degree. These members were Ayden Ault, Abigail Doberstein and Reagan Rowland.

After the degree awards were given, Savannah Bordner, the Indiana FFA State Northern Region vice president, gave a speech with some of her own words of wisdom. The chapter also observed the fall CDEs and the contests' top judger. The top judger for the livestock skill-a-thon was Jacob Baker, the junior team top crops judger was Thomas Boggs and the senior team top crops judger was Bailey Stutzman. The forestry team top judger was Abigail Doberstein.

The chapter meeting teams were also recognized for their successful year with novice team placing first at district and sixth at section contest and the senior team placing second at district contest, second at section contest and then advanced to state contest, where they placed fourth and were recognized at the state convention at Purdue University in June.

The chapter recognized proficiency awards. Awardees included: Ayden Ault, gold ranking, agriculture sales; Jacob Baker, second in the district, swine entrepreneurship; Abby Doberstein, gold ranking, poultry production; Valerie Messmore, gold ranking, beef production—placement; Reagan Rowland, silver ranking, agriculture services; and Taryn Whetstone, silver ranking, sheep production.

The chapter excelled at the District II Leadership Contest this year. In spring CDEs, the welding team placed 38th at state overall. The horse and pony judging team were also recognized. The chapter had a top 16 in total points and those awards went to Ayden Ault, Thomas Boggs, Jacob Baker, Abby Doberstein, Cadence Gibson, Bailey Hanes, Allison Layne, Valerie Messmore, Lauryn Rhodes, Reagan Rowland, Reese Rowland, Blake Schnackenberg, Bailey Stutzman, Anthony Taylor, Breanna Thompson and Taryn Whetstone.

The 2019 Honorary FFA Degree Recipients were Brent and Renea Messmore. The Chapter Outstanding Academic Award went to Dakotah Easterday (ninth), Brittany Duncan (10th), Lauryn Rhodes (11th) and Abigail Doberstein (12th). The Outstanding Leader award went to Harrison Stofer (seventh), Reese Rowland, Blake Schnackenberg and Breanna Thompson (eighth), Bailey Stutzman (ninth), Kevin Hesser (10th), Lauryn Rhodes (11th) and Hailey Locke (12th).

The Warsaw FFA chapter retired last year's officers. The aforementioned officers included: Valerie Messmore, president; Reagan Rowland, vice president; Ayden Ault and Bailey Hanes, secretaries; Abigail Doberstein, treasurer; Allison Layne, reporter; and Taryn Whetstone, sentinel.

Officers assuming roles in the coming 2019-20 school year were also inducted into office. The aforementioned officers include: Reagan Rowland, president; Lauryn Rhodes, vice president; Ayden Ault, secretary; Anthony Taylor, treasurer; and Bailey Stutzman, reporter and sentinel.
