$55,000 Gelding Tops Draft Horse Auction

The Topeka Draft Horse sale took place last week. The auction ring saw 947 Belgians, 124 Percherons and 87 other breeds of draft animals.

A 3-year-old Belgian gelding was the top seller. The horse brought $55,000 and was consigned by Dublin Valley Farms of Fredricksburg, Ohio. Gayle Gerein of Unity, Canada purchased the gelding.

Dublin Valley Farms also sold the second top selling gelding. The 3-year-old was purchased by Manuel Tavares of Erin, Ontario for $47,500.

A 4-year-old Belgian gelding sold for $30,000. David Mouland of Fordingbridge, England bought the horse. The seller was Brian and Bud Miller and Phillip Hershberger of Middlebury.

A Belgian mare consigned by Roy Coblentz of Wilmot, Ohio brought $20,000. The 5-year-old was purchased by Eicher Farms of Berne.

A 3-year-old mare sold for $20,000 to Timothy Lengacher of New Haven. Duane and Norman Coblentz of Beach City, Ohio consigned the Belgian.

Mahlon Yoder of LaGrange cashed in $17,000 for his 11-year-old Belgian mare. The horse went to Abner Knepp of Montgomery.

The top Belgian stallion sold for $23,000. The yearling was consigned by Manuel Tavares of Erin, Ohio. Marlin Miller of New Paris bought the young horse.

Myron Yoder of Wolcottville purchased a 5-year-old Belgian stallion for $20,500. Allen Miller of Punxsutawny, Pa. sold the stud.

Matthew Graber of Loogootee, Ind. sold a yearling Belgian stallion to Aaron Bontrager of Mount Victory for $16,750.

The top selling Percheron brought $9,300. James Hostetler of Topeka consigned the horse. The buyer was Enos Graber of Woodburn.

A 3-year-old Percheron mare sold for $8,600. Lonnie Schrock of Arthur, Ill. purchased the animal. The horse was consigned by Daniel Beechy of Shipshewana.

The third highest selling Percheron was a 13-year-old mare. Lyle Dean Bontrager of Shipshewana paid $7,200 for the horse. Joseph Zehr of Grabill sold the animal.

A draft cross gelding brought $3,200. William Howard of Acme, Pa. bought the horse. David and Lorene Beachy of Goshen sold the animal.

Robert Durham of McEwen, Tenn. sold a 6-year-old unregistered Clydesdale. The gelding was purchased by Paul Martin of New Holland, Pa. for $3,900.

Martin also purchased a 7-year-old unregistered Clydesdale for $3,200. The gelding was consigned by Greg Rowe of Bellevue, Mich.
