MLE Crowns Champions in Branch County

Area exhibitors Alissa Boersen of Zeeland and Murcie Wallen of Union City captured reserve champion banners at the Michigan Livestock Expo on July 14-18 at the Branch County Fairgrounds in Coldwater. This year's event featured a show-and-go format, with only youth exhibitors and their families in attendance.
For the second year in a row, Boersen showed the reserve champion market beef animal. Wallen made her debut on the MLE stage by showing the reserve champion market hog and the Great Lakes Grand Crossbred.
In beef, Megan Brunke of Eau Claire's champion Charolais steer was selected as one of six "showcase" steers.
In market goats, Mason Trattles of Burr Oak and Mariah Jansen of Sturgis both showed showcase goats. Jansen's goat earned the additional honor of Great Lakes Grand.
In market lambs, Drew George of Niles and Payton Hines of Quincy both exhibited showcase lambs.
Cailyn Hines, also of Quincy, brought a showcase market hog.
The grand champions were: beef, Alivia Bischer, Ubly; hogs, Wyatt Mazich, Perry; sheep, Seth Schumacher, Ubly; goats, Emma Darrow, Olivet; and dairy heifer, Paige Remenar, Ovid.
Other reserve champions were shown by: goats, Avery Darrow, Olivet; and sheep, Kaylee Kasperski, Riley.
The grand champion dairy showperson was Anna Moser of Ovid. Taylor Kik of Lowell, Mich. won reserve champion honors.
