Published: Friday, October 16, 2020

Elkhart County's 4-H volunteers and supporters were recognized during the annual 4-H leader banquet last Thursday evening in Goshen.

Friend of 4-H awards were given to Jessica Burbrink, Troy and Emili Zahner, and Forest River Inc. These awards are presented to those who have contributed to the Elkhart County 4-H program by leadership direction, program support and/or monetary contributions.

Leader Awards are based on tenure and involvement in the many aspects of the 4-H program. The recipient of the Bronze Award (1-5 years) was Dustin Mast, who assists with Mini 4-H and began an Auto Mechanic Club. Renee Klein was awarded the Silver Award (6-11 years). She is a leader of the 4-H Beef Club. The Gold Award (12 years and over) was presented to Annette Stilwell for her leadership of Jacksonians/Producers.

The Platinum Award is presented to adult leaders for outstanding service to 4-H. This year, it was presented to Diane Holderman, the organizational leader of the Goshen Boys and Girls 4-H Club.

In other awards, the 4-H Cup results were announced. The Cup was created to recognize 4-H clubs for their outstanding work and community service in Elkhart County. Emerald Clubs are the top three overall achieving clubs. The Emerald clubs this year were: Foundations-4-Life, Jacksonians/Producers and Dog Club.

The evening also included presentations by two Elkhart County 4-H'ers. Julia Koch of Crystal Valley Clovers 4-H Club began the evening with a wonderful violin performance. Samantha Markham of Stitch It Up 4-H Club capped the entertainment portion with a brilliant speech about learning from failures.
