Allen Co. 4-H Announces Events, Election, Fundraiser

Published: Friday, February 19, 2021

Country Kitchen has donated gingerbread house kits to Allen County 4-H to use in the Wonderland Gingerbread Decorating Contest.

The competition will be held in four divisions: mini (up to and including second grade); beginner (third-fifth grades); intermediate (sixth-eighth grades) and advanced (ninth-12th grades).

Kits can be picked up at the Allen County Extension Office. Call 260/481-6826 prior to pickup. The only rule is to have fun and be creative.

Photos of the completed gingerbread house must be emailed to Kelsey Younce, Extension educator, by Feb. 27. A panel of judges will award a 4-H-related prize to the winner of each division.

4-H Enrollment

4HOnline enrollment and payment of program fees is due by May 15. If you enroll May 1-15, you must use a major credit card for payment. Some animal projects have an earlier deadline.

County Fee Waived

The 4-H Board has voted to not have a county 4-H program fee again in 2021. This means that 4-H members in grades three-12 will only pay the $15 state 4-H program fee. Mini 4-H members will be free again this year.

Fair Entry

Fair entry will take place June 1-30. Failure to enter within that timeframe will result in those projects placing no higher than a blue ribbon and being ineligible for honor, division reserve champion, division champion, State Fair entry, reserve grand champion or grand champion accolades.

4-H Fling

The third annual 4-H Fling is going virtual. Purchase Andy's Knockout Chicken dinner tickets for $10 at the office; or call Jean Kendall, Allen County 4-H administrative assistant, at 260/481-6429; or mail a check to Allen County 4-H Clubs Inc., 4001 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne Ind. 46815.

Dinners, which include a half-chicken and potatoes, can be picked up at the CES on Feb. 27. Call Kendall to donate an item for the virtual silent auction that will be held on the Allen County 4-H Facebook page.

Theme Contest

The Allen County Theme Contest allows 4-H'ers to be involved in selecting the theme for the 4-H program booklet and recognition flyer. Entries must be submitted by March 15. The winner will receive a $50 award and recognition on the booklet.

The rules for the Theme Contest are as follows: theme must be created by current 4-H members; the entry must measure 8.5 by 11 inches in a vertical format; entries must be an original computer-generated graphic; entries must include name, club, grade, address and phone number must be on the back; one entry per 4-H'er.

Entries must be submitted electronically to jkend all@purdue.edu.
