Michigan 4-H Honors Military

Published: Friday, April 2, 2021

April is the "Month of the Military Child"—a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide, with an emphasis on the experience of the dependent children of military members serving at home and overseas.

April was established as the Month of the Military Child in 1986 by then-Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger.

Michigan 4-H is honoring our military families and children with a fun, new game. Complete missions, connect with other youth around the state and learn a little about the military through participation in the popular "Original Scavenger Hunt App."

Simply download the app for free and watch the new challenges download weekly. Compete with others for points and prizes by posting either by text, photo/video or GPS and see where you fall in the rankings daily by checking out the leaderboard and activity feed. Prizes awarded for high points, creative submissions and random drawings.

Themed weeks:

• Introduction—April 1-4—Military 101.

• April 5-11—Basic training.

• April 12-18—Gratitude.

• April 19-25—Recognition and sacrifice.

• April 26-30—Military around the world.

Any youth ages 13-19 can download the GooseChase app to their phone or tablet; younger youth or youth without a phone or tablet can partner with an older sibling or parent/guardian to play as a Team. Participants do not need to be in 4-H or have any previous military knowledge to play.
