Green Bay Breakfast Casserole

8 oz. pkg. bulk pork sausage

½ (8 oz.) pkg. Neufchtel cheese, softened

8 oz. pkg. refrigerated crescent rolls

1 c. sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded

Salt, optional, to taste

Pepper, optional, to taste

Preheat oven to 375°. Cook sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off fat. Add the Neufchtel cheese to the sausage and cook, stirring, until combined. Remove skillet from heat.

Unroll the crescent rolls and place ½ of the dough into the bottom of an 8x8" glass baking dish, making sure to press the seams together. Top the crescent roll crust with the sausage mixture. Sprinkle sausage mixture with the Cheddar cheese. Top the sausage layer with the remaining crescent roll dough, pinching the seams closed.

Bake until golden brown, about 20-25 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. —4 servings.
