Pulaski 4-H Livestock Exhibitors Rake in $84,550

Pulaski County 4-H'ers earned $84,550 from the sale of 101 lots in last Thursday's annual 4-H livestock auction in Winamac. The amount was down from last year's total of $104,222.35.

Leading the way was Presley Johnson, who showed the grand champion beef steer. The Winamac youth sold the 1,329-pound animal for $1,450 ($1.09 per pound) to Jim Dobson Ford and Prairieland Farms.

The reserve champion beef steer, exhibited by Cameron Hilton of Winamac did not sell.

In swine, Carter Keller of Monterey exhibited the reserve champion barrow and reserve champion crossbred. He sold the 253-pounder for $700 ($2.77 a pound) to Kenny Becker of Olson Auctions. The grand champion barrow belonging to Caleb Field of Kewanna did not sell.

Livia Johnson of Monon stood first in the lamb show. Her 108-pound grand champion market lamb was auctioned for $3,000 ($27.78 per pound) to a buyer's group. The reserve champion lamb exhibited by Raegan Kasten of Winamac brought $1,350 ($9.85 per pound). The lamb weighed 137 pounds.

In goats, Lucas Fagner of Winamac sold his grand champion meat wether for $650 to Murray Leasing, with add-ons from Stock Vets and Rumsey Farms. Alison Grothaus of Argos earned $400 from the sale of her reserve champion meat wether. The buyer was Rife Farm Supplies, with add-ons from Stock Vets and Rumsey Farms.

Reese Carter of Monterey received $300 from Good Oil Co. for the reserve champion dairy wether. Stock Vets and Rumsey Farms added another $50, bringing the total to $350. The grand champion dairy wether, which did not sell, was shown by Hilton.

In rabbits, Drew Depoy of Winamac sold the grand champion meat pen for $500 to BraunAbility. One-third of that pen was the grand champion single fryer.

Kinzey Hileman of Winamac sold her reserve grand champion single fryer for $250 to Kevin and Kathy Wyatt.

Roni Garbison of Winamac sold the grand champion duck for $350 to the Kocher family. William Garbison, also of Winamac, sold the reserve champion duck for $350 to BraunAbility.

In turkeys, the grand champion was shown by Shayla Ringen of Winamac. She received $750 from Sheriff Chris Schramm. Claytin Ringen, also of Winamac, sold the reserve champion turkey for $450 to Brett Sanders.

Alana Kasten of Francesville sold her reserve champion meat chickens for $450 to Bonnell Farms LLC. The grand champion meat chickens, which did not sell, were exhibited by Shayla Ringen.

Not selling were the grand and reserve champion dairy beef steers and the grand and reserve champion dairy starter calves.

Carter Keller showed the grand champion dairy beef steer, and Chase Keller brought the reserve.

In dairy starter calves, Chase Keller exhibited the grand champion and Carter Keller had the reserve.

Members of the fair royalty sold kisses to raise money for the 4-H program. Aidan Smith was first, selling a kiss to his mother, Amy Smith, for $1,500. Next was Maddox Bucinski, who auctioned off a kiss for $2,500 to Siminski Software.

Finally, Miss Pulaski County Alexia Intravaia raised $2,200 by selling a kiss to David and Brooke Browning family. Add-ons came from Keller Construction and Robert's Seed & Service.

Auction subtotals, by species, were: 39 barrows, $33,100; 16 gilts, $11,850; 10 lambs, $9,500; 22 poultry pens, $8,800; 10 goats, $6,000; 2 dairy steers, $3,100; 4 dairy starter calves, $2,950; 4 rabbit pens, $1,600; 1 beef steer, $1,450; and 3 royalty kisses, $6,200.
