Auction Receipts Total $323,900 in Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo County Fair's animal auction yielded $232,866.25 from 189 lots on Aug. 11. This is up from last year's 112 lots earning $169,216.70.
Twelve lots of beef sold for a total of $55,033.25. Natlie Hoagg, the top showman in the beef division, from Richland sold her grand champion beef steer to Hall Builders for $5 per pound, bringing in a total of $7,235. The grand champion dairy steer, shown by Alyssa Morrison from Scotts, sold to Post Foods for $3 per pound, making a total of $4,638.
Josh Engel from Gobles sold his reserve champion beef steer to Balkema Excavating for $3.50 per pound, making $4210.50. Joe Peck, from Scotts, sold his reserve champion dairy steer to Carleton Equipment for $2 per pound, making a total of $3,206.
Engel's grand champion beef carcass sold for $4.25 a pound to Balkema Excavating, bringing in $5070.25. Andrew Dinzik from Vicksburg sold his grand champion dairy steer carcass for $3,168, at $2.25 per pound.
Eight lots of dairy feeders sold for a total of $12.090.25. Emma Gibson, from Battle Creek, sold her reserve champion dairy feeder to Crystal Flash Petroleum for $1.75 per pound, making $1,415.75. The grand champion dairy feeder was not taken to auction.
The dairy project sold a champion gallon of milk for $2,900 to Myers Farms LLC. The money will go to the club members.
Swine exhibitors sold 71 lots, making a total of $110,952. Hoagg sold her grand champion barrow to B&B Trucking for $5 per pound, making $1,390. Dane Sattler of East Leroy sold his reserve grand champion barrow to King's Equipment for $7 per pound, making a total of $1,912.
Emma Engel, from Gobles sold her grand champion gilt to Hall Builders for $1,295 at $5 per pound. J. Engel sold his reserve grand champion gilt to Create Foods Innovation LLC for $5.25 per pound, making $1,197.
Dinzik sold his reserve champion carcass for $3.75 per pound to Hamon's Maple Ridge Farm, making a total of $962.50.
Two goat lots sold for a total of $450. Aubrey Motycka from Decatur sold her grand champion meat goat for $225 to Home Energy Solutions. Motycka sold her reserve champion meat goat for $225 to Dave Dyer of Dyer Farms.
Thirty-seven lots of lambs sold for a total of $37,805. Top showman for the lamb category, Chase Johnson of Edwardsburg sold his grand champion wether to Crystal Flash Petroleum for $5 per pound, making a total of $730. Grant Piper, of Climax sold his reserve champion wether to Carleton Equipment for $5 per pound, making $700.
Emma Gibson, from Battle Creek, sold her grand champion ewe to Bill and Shellie Gibson, Cornerstone Ag Management, Kevin and Jess Kaercher, Kalsee Credit Union, Myers Farms LLC., Matt and Alisha Gibson, Lipscomb LLC and Crystal Flash Petroleum for $17.50 per pound, making a total of $2,530.
Eloise Wagner, from Climax, sold her reserve champion ewe to Matt and Alisha Gibson for $8.50 per pound, making $1,020.
Eight lots of turkey sold for a total of $2,500. Isaac Gilfillan of Richland sold his grand champion tom turkey to Bimbo's Pizza for $350. Johnathan Shook, from Fulton, Mich. sold his reserve grand champion tom turkey to Perkins Farms, LLC. for $300.
Julia Shook, from Fulton, Mich. sold her grand champion hen turkey to Perkins Farms, LCC. for $325. Izzabella Deckard, from Kalamazoo, sold her reserve grand champion hen turkey to Farm Bureau Insurance, the Buckham Agency for $225.
Fourteen lots of poultry sold for a total of $3,795. Annalise Jubenville, from Kalamazoo sold her grand champion roaster to Nelly's Greenhouse for $350. Jackson Gilfillan, from Richland, sold his reserve champion roaster to Richard Fuller for $400.
Jubenville sold her grand champion broiler to Farm Bureau Insurance, the Buckham Agency, for $325. Carson Martimore, from Kalamazoo, sold his reserve champion broiler to John and Susan Compton for $275.
Kenley Gilfillan of Plainwell sold her grand champion Cornish to Service Master for $215. Charles Gilfillan of Plainwell sold his reserve grand champion Cornish to Kathlyn Gilfillan for $250.
The poultry project sold their grand champion dozen eggs to D&E Custom Trucking for $450.
Thirty-five rabbit lots sold for a total of $6,890. Deckard sold her champion fryer for $100 to Neal Family Dentistry. Brooklyn Froy sold her reserve grand champion fryer to Kalsee Credit Union for $100.
Maycee Peck, from Scotts, sold her grand champion pen of three to D&E Custom Trucking for $350. Dechard sold her reserve grand champion pen of three to S&F Propane for $250.
J. Gilfillan sold his grand champion roaster to Farm Bureau Insurance, the Buckham Agency for $165. Peck sold his reserve grand champion roaster to Aaron and Meagan Srackangast for $300.
