Steury Moves Up on Fair Board

The Elkhart County 4-H Fair saw a changing of the guard during its annual meeting last Tuesday in Goshen.
Shelly Steury will take over the reins in 2024 following the successful term of leadership under Fred Jessup.
Jessup thanked the many people who contributed to the success of the 150th fair, which saw record attendance and a record 4-H auction. Among those were his parents, who served as grand marshals for the fair parade.
"I chose my parents, Bill and Karen Jessup, for everything they've done for me," he said, pointing out that they continued to operate the farm during busy times while he was handling responsibilities with the fair.
Jessup also presented the Legacy Award to Bets Hahn.
During her turn at the mic, Steury recognized Jessup for his service by presenting him with a plaque. She unveiled the 2024 theme, "A Timeless Tradition." The logo, designed by her daughter, Kendra, celebrates the fair's rodeo tradition.
"The things that are represented in this logo are that we have 4-H, we have agriculture, we have the fair and, most importantly, my family tradition of going to the rodeo during the fair," said Steury. "The horse in the logo also represents the fact that Kendra was a 10-year member of the saddle club."
On the saddle pad is the number seven, because Steury is the seventh woman to serve as fair board president.
