A Person You Should Know
This week's "Person You Should Know" is a recent addition to the FFA leadership team in DeKalb County. Rebekah Peterson started as an agricultural teacher and co-advisor to the DeKalb FFA Chapter earlier this fall.
Current Hometown: I am currently living in Auburn, but I am originally from Monticello, Ill.
Family: I do not have family in the area; however, I have a sister, Anna, and two brothers, Jacob and Caleb Peterson, in addition to my parents Bill and Brandi. I am very fortunate to have a family that has always been very loving and supportive.
My Job: I teach agriculture and am a co-FFA advisor at Dekalb High School in Waterloo. I teach ag powers and technology, ag structures fabrication and design, horticulture, landscaping, and principles of agriculture. I also manage our school's greenhouse and co-manage our FFA farm.
My mentor: I have had a few mentors over the years that have guided me and encouraged my growth. Aside from my family, both my two high school agriculture teachers and FFA advisors, Mr. Bryce Hoffman and Mrs. Elizabeth Rost, played tremendous roles as they encouraged me to grow deeper in my love for agriculture and live my life for Christ. The other group of mentors come from the Indiana FFA District 3 advisors. These men and women have supported me in my first few years of teaching and push me to be better than the day before.
My mission in life: My mission is to glorify God in all aspects of my life. There are times when this is easier and times when I struggle with actively pursuing God's plan for me.
How I give back: As I settle into this new town, I am looking for new opportunities to serve this community that has been so welcoming to me. Most of my time is spent serving the students at DeKalb through the classroom and with after-school and weekend FFA events.
Hobbies: I love hiking and backpacking and would love to visit Yosemite National Park in the fall season.
If I Could Do Something Else: Leatherwork takes a lot of skill and patience and I believe that this would be a cool skill to learn.
