Warsaw FFA Honors Hohman, Lackey with Top Awards

Three prestigious awards were presented to four students at the Warsaw FFA Awards Banquet last Thursday. These are the Star Greenhand, the Blue and Gold Award and the Anglin/Bishop Scholarship.
Natalie Hohman received the Star Greenhand in honor of her excellence in FFA activities and manner during her freshman year. The Blue and Gold Award was presented to freshman Kade Lackey in recognition of his remarkable growth in leadership, confidence and perseverance.
Kaymen Delph and Kaytlin Skeans were awarded the Anglin/Bishop Scholarship. The scholarships honor two FFA alumni who showed a passion for agriculture and are awarded to students seeking a career in the industry.
Two Warsaw FFA members were honored as high achieving state and national members. Skeans was awarded the highest degree available to Indiana FFA high school students, the State Degree, which will be presented to Skeans at the State FFA Convention in June. It is second only to the American FFA Degree, which Rylan Cooper will receive this fall at the National FFA Convention.
Other degree winners include: Discovery Degree —Ashlyn Arnett, Natalie Deuel, Owen Nisen, Madelyn Riley and Peyton Robinson; and Chapter Degree—Alayna Alexander, Cara Holland, Makayla Riley and Olivia Starkweather. This is the second-highest degree for FFA members in high school. The Greenhand Degree recognizes the work of beginning FFA members. Paige Baker, Helen Dee, Delph, Brook Edwards, Joseph Goble, Abigail Gordon, Hohman, Amy Joy, Adrianna Koos, Lackey, Sadie Reed, Abigail Shelhart and Trinity Wolfe received the honor.
Outstanding FFA members in each grade who were recognized are: Addison Goon, seventh; Deuel and Peyton Robinson, eighth; Joseph Goble and Koos, freshmen; Bailey Goon, sophomore; Brook Edwards and Khloe Hinojosa, junior; and Delph, senior.
FFA members honored three community members for their impact on agriculture with the Outstanding Service Award. This was presented to Tom Starkweather, Alexa Collins and James Alexander.
Top competitors during the career development events were also recognized. These include: Alayna Alexander, livestock skill-a-thon and entomology judging; Logan Meads, junior crop judging; Addison Goon, junior forestry; Makayla Riley, senior forestry; Delph, welding; Lackey, practical forestry; Skeans, veterinary science; and Abigail Gordon, dairy judging.
Others awarded for their achievements during career development events were: Bailey Goon, Hohman, Kelsie Jones, Gretchen Robinson, Sirius Sisk, Rylan Starkweather, Ethan Paul, Peyton Robinson, Goble, Hinojosa, Hohman, Joy, AJ Truex, Paige Baker, Ariana Bustamente, Reed, Ariana Arnett, Deuel, Alexa Hankins, Nate Howett, Jeremiah Paseka, Jaren Arnett, Ivan Puga, Peyton Robinson, Olivia Starkweather, Dee, Brook Edwards, Abigail Gordon, Koos, Mallarie Matlock, Eva Everest, Katelyn Gordon, Oliver Nisen, Owen Nisen and Abby Hite.
Supervised agricultural experience proficiency awards were presented to two state second-place winners. These are Dylan Hurd, wildlife management placement, and Oliver Nisen, dairy production entrepreneurship.
Also recognized for silver ranking in state proficiency were Oliver Nisen, Cooper and Skeans. High achieving members were Makayla Riley and Skeans.
Awarded for their success at the District FFA Contest were: Alayna Alexander, Ariana Arnett, Bustamente, Deuel, Delph, Goble, Abigail Gordon, Hankins, Hinojosa, Hohman, Joy, Lackey, Reed, Madelyn Riley, Makayla Riley, Skeans, Baker, Kayla Campos, Dee, Edwards, Koos, Olivia Starkweather and Kiera Zuagg.
Other awards recognized FFA point recipients, community service and academic achievement.
Graduating seniors are: Jadrien Burge, Delph, Oliver Nisen, Alex Shaw, Skeans and Lucy Vosler.
Newly elected officers include: Hinojosa, reporter; Hohman, sentinel; Lackey, student advisor; and Hite, treasurer. Alexander was promoted to president, Bustamente to vice president and Makayla Riley to secretary. Skeans retired as president.
