Allen County Auction Rakes in $129,000

The Allen County Fair livestock auction took place June 23 with a total sale of $129,223 on 88 lots. This included large animals, small animals, flowers, milk from the champion dairy cow, and eggs from the champion layer.

Auction totals were up compared to last year's total of $112,000, although numbers were down in swine and sheep. There were 11 lots between beef and dairy beef that sold for a total of $13,146.01. Swine had 22 lots that sold for a total of $44,670, with five lots donated to the Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry.

Lambs had three lots that totaled $1,980. There were 21 lots for goats that sold for a total of $19,525. Poultry had 18 lots that included one dozen eggs from the champion layer, along with turkeys and broilers that totaled $15,320. Rabbits rounded out the auction, with eight lots that came to a total of $3,960.

The champion feeder steer sold for $903.91 and weighed 445 pounds ($2.03 per pound) and was exhibited by Raymond Hadley from Woodburn. The champion Ayrshire feeder sold for $1,453.91 and weighed 575 pounds ($2.53 per pound) and was exhibited by Lydia Freed from Fort Wayne. The champion Jersey feeder sold for $450 and weighed 241 pounds ($1.87 per pound) and was exhibited by Charles Brubaker from Fort Wayne.

The champion barrow sold for $1,225 and weighed 244 pounds ($5.02 per pound) and was exhibited by Jake Emenhiser from Fort Wayne. The grand champion market hog sold for $3,500 and weighed 276 pounds ($12.68 per pound) and was exhibited by Danica Dafforn from Fort Wayne.

In the lamb sale, the champion Blackface lamb sold for $450 and weighed 160 pounds ($2.81 per pound) and was exhibited by Paul Warner. The reserve champion Hampshire lamb sold for $450 and weighed 126 pounds ($3.57 per pound) and was exhibited by Malachi Malcolm from Garrett.

The champion dairy goat wether sold for $2,775 and weighed 63 pounds ($44.05 per pound) and was exhibited by Evan Brubaker from Fort Wayne. Reserve champion dairy goat wether sold for $300 and weighed 54 pounds ($5.56 per pound) and was exhibited by Lily Gater.

In the poultry sale, the champion commercial poultry and turkey sold for $350 to Fort Wayne Pet Hospital and was exhibited by Grant Martin from Fort Wayne. Reserve champion commercial poultry and turkey sold for $400 and was exhibited by Callahan Speith from Woodburn. The reserve champion turkey sold for $2,410 and was exhibited by Charlotte McCullough from Monroeville.

Champion layer eggs sold for $175 to Fort Wayne Pet Hospital, and the hen was exhibited by Paul Warner. The reserve champion broiler chicken sold for $440 and was exhibited by Jackson Platt. The champion lightweight broiler chicken sold for $250 and was exhibited by Brady Howard.

The champion single fryer rabbit sold for $200 to Milan Center Feed and Grain and was exhibited by Celine Baumle. The champion roaster rabbit sold for $200 to Fort Wayne Pet Hospital and was exhibited by Genevieve Baumle. Champion stewer rabbit sold for $200 to Gena and Tim Hamby and was exhibited by Paul Baumle.

The following champions at the Allen County Fair did not sell: grand and reserve champion market beef steers, Bentley Ott, Brownsburg, Ind.; grand champion beef female, Kyleigh Cripps, Tippecanoe; reserve champion beef female, Evan Brubaker, Fort Wayne; reserve champion beef feeder calf, Kaydence Cripps, Tippecanoe; reserve champion barrow, Landry Carpenter, Fort Wayne; grand champion gilt, Holly Howard, reserve champion gilt, Kreigh Emenhiser, Fort Wayne.

Also not selling were the grand champion market lamb exhibited by Holly Howard, the reserve champion market lamb exhibited by Jaxs Hockenberry from Fort Wayne, the grand champion dairy beef steer exhibited by Kyleigh Cripps from Tippecanoe, and the reserve champion dairy beef steer exhibited by Laney Parker from Churubusco.

Also not selling were the grand and reserve champion dairy beef calves exhibited by Laney Parker, the grand champion exhibition poultry exhibited by Keagan Hornback, the grand champion dairy goat junior doe exhibited by Landen King, the reserve champion senior doe exhibited by Hailey Paul, the reserve champion 6 class rabbit exhibited by Zachery Scheiderer of Woodburn, the grand champion 4 class rabbit, exhibited by Chase Malcolm of Fort Wayne, and the reserve champion 4 class rabbit exhibited by Ashley Meyer.
