The auctioneer's call cut through the hot, humid air last Thursday in Huntington as the grand champion lamb surpassed the 2013 record of $1,200 for Isaac Lilly's 139-pound lamb. The Roanoke youth sold it to the friends of Isaac Lilly for the record-breaking premium of $5,500.

After add-ons from Crain Ford-Bob and Stacie Bolen, Jeff Scher, Jason and Susan Worster, Matt and Gayle Melcher and the Huntington County Goat Assn., that price rose to $5,925.

In addition to Lilly's lamb, another 400 animals sold, earning a total of $317,083.68.

"In comparison to the 2024 auction, 15 fewer lots sold, with total auction proceeds increasing by $12,702," reported Huntington County Extension Director Ed Farris.

The auction was a premium sale but gave 4-H'ers the choice to hold or sell their animal. Subtotals by species include: three dairy lots, $900; 16 beef, $50,788.08; nine sheep, $12,285.45; 68 goats, $62,786; 154 poultry, $70,310; 86 rabbits, $47,246.50; and 65 swine, $72,767.65.

Along with Lilly, two other names rose to the top at the Huntington County 4-H auction. They are Brown and Scher.

The three Brown sisters, Roxy, Wila and Hazel, swept the dairy showmanship competition last week, taking senior, intermediate and junior titles, respectively. Roxy added to her success in the master showmanship contest.

Roxy earned a premium of $325 from buyer Jim and Pam Sprowl family for a gallon of milk representing her dairy project. Beacon Credit Union paid the high bid for Wila's gallon of milk, handing over $225 to the Huntington youth. Hazel earned $375 from her buyer Helena Agri Enterprise. Putting an additional $25 on each lot was Eric and Candace Richardson Show Cattle.

Maci Scher, also of Huntington, swept the swine show, taking home purple ribbons for her barrow and gilt. Neither animal sold at auction, as she prepares them to show at the Indiana State Fair.

The grand champion in the beef and dairy beef shows was a dairy beef steer exhibited by Jonathan McMillan of Montpelier. It did not sell at auction.
