Congo Cookies

2¾ c. all-purpose flour
2½ tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. butter or margarine
2¼ c. brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
7 oz. chocolate chips
1 c. pecans (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. In another bowl, melt butter and add brown sugar. Mix well. Cool slightly and add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla extract. Add dry ingredients to mixture, a little at a time, mixing as you go. Add chocolate chips and nuts, if desired.
Spread into a greased 913 pan. Bake at in preheated oven for 35 minutes. Remove from oven and when almost cool, cut into finger-length bars. —24 servings.
