Indiana Corn Reaches Dough Stage

Indiana and Michigan crops continued to develop during the week ending Sunday, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest Crop Progress report, with corn, soybeans and winter wheat showing mixed progress across both states.
In Indiana, 19% of the corn crop had reached the silking stage, up from 17% a week earlier, while 1% had reached the dough stage. Corn condition was rated 68% good to excellent, including 53% good and 15% excellent. Twenty-nine percent of the crop was rated fair, and 9% was poor or very poor.
Michigan reported 10% of its corn crop at the silking stage, compared with 8% the previous week. Corn had not yet reached the dough stage. The state's corn condition was rated 72% good to excellent, with 42% good and 30% excellent. Twenty-four percent was rated fair, while 4% was poor or very poor.
Soybean development also advanced. In Indiana, 21% of the crop was blooming and 3% had begun setting pods. Soybean condition was rated 64% good to excellent, with 30% fair and 11% poor or very poor. Michigan reported 23% of soybeans blooming and 4% setting pods. Soybean condition stood at 53% good to excellent, while 38% was rated fair and 10% poor or very poor.
Winter wheat harvest also continued. Indiana producers had harvested 59% of the crop by Sunday, slightly ahead of the five-year average of 54% but below 61% at the same time last year. Michigan growers had harvested 7% of the crop, in line with the five-year average of 8%. Indiana's remaining winter wheat was rated 61% good to excellent, while Michigan's crop was rated 76% good to excellent.
Nationally, 14% of the U.S. corn crop had reached the silking stage, 28% of soybeans were blooming, and 51% of the winter wheat crop had been harvested.
